HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Jay H. Pearce on the
4occasion of his retirement from public broadcasting in
5Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has worked in radio and television
7broadcasting for almost 50 years, spanning stations in Texas,
8Missouri, and Illinois; he has worked with public broadcasting
9stations for more than half of his career; and
 
10    WHEREAS, For the last 11 years, Jay Pearce has served as
11the CEO, general manager, and an on-air host for WVIK at
12Augustana College; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During his time at WVIK, Jay Pearce has worked to
14make the station a community leader by partnering with local
15businesses on numerous projects, expanding programming, and
16serving as an advocate for local news, art, and entertainment;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has also worked to ensure that WVIK is
19situated to face the difficulties of a new era by adapting the
20station's portfolio for the digital age, which was further
21highlighted when a station-produced podcast reached number two

1in the national podcast rankings; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has dedicated significant time to
3training the next generation of journalists and broadcasters,
4including teaching classes at Southern Illinois University and
5the University of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jay Pearce has also proven himself as a trusted
7expert in his field and a respected member of his community; he
8has served on several advisory and directory boards, including
9NPR, the Illinois Broadcasters Association Foundation, the
10Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association, the Quad
11Cities Illinois Rotary Club, and the ONE Foundation of
12Bettendorf, Iowa; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Jay H. Pearce on the occasion of his
16retirement in public broadcasting from WVIK, commend his long
17career in public broadcasting, and wish him the best in his
18future endeavors; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Jay Pearce as an expression of our esteem and
21respect.
