HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marvin
4"Preach" Webb, who passed away on June 8, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was born to John and Lillie (Baldwin)
6Webb in Edwardsville on January 12, 1936; he was born into a
7world of segregation, attending local schools before they were
8integrated; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb, despite his early experiences as a
10Black man, chose to embrace his community instead of becoming
11hardened towards it, sharing his compassion, patriotism, and
12love with everyone, unofficially serving as the goodwill
13ambassador of Edwardsville; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was known for his daily walks through
15Edwardsville, often checking in with the various business
16owners and community officials along his way; he took his
17daily walks for decades, allowing him to meet and care for
18generations of Edwardsville citizens; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Through these walks, Marvin Webb developed a
20reputation within the community as someone who possessed great
21honesty, integrity, and empathy while always being polite,

1patient, and gracious; over the years, he began helping around
2his favorite stops, including cleaning up a lobby at the
3Clerk's Office and running important errands for shop owners
4too busy to leave their stores, such as taking deposits to the
5bank; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was also truly invested in the people
7of his community, taking the opportunity on his walks around
8town to check in on others, to offer sympathies to those
9grieving recent losses of loved ones and share funeral
10arrangements with others, to respectfully correct misbehaving
11children at the local movie theater, to hand out church books
12on Sunday, and to attend many Edwardsville Tiger events at
13Edwardsville High School; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb was preceded in death by his parents
15and his siblings, Curtis Webb and Julia McKinney; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Marvin Webb is survived by his brothers, L.D.
17Bradford and James (Cynthia) Webb; his sisters, Lavon Lagrown,
18Lillie (Fred) Willis, Pearlie Talbert, Maggie Smith, and
19Mattie Smith; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be
20it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
22HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Marvin "Preach" Webb and extend our
2sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
3and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Marvin Webb as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
