HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
4Dyas Gordon Sr. of Springfield, who passed away on July 22,
52022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Gordon was born to William Moss and Ethel
7Dyas Gordon in Colorado City, Texas on October 15, 1927; he
8served in World War II and Korea; he married Ruby Jeanne Stokes
9in Abilene, Texas on September 7, 1949; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Robert Gordon spent a few years with the FBI in
11Washington, D.C. before joining the broadcast industry,
12becoming a pioneer broadcaster and television personality; he
13helped build a television station from the ground up in
14Tupelo, Mississippi in the mid-1950s; he spent the balance of
15his professional career as a broadcast executive, much of it
16in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as vice president and
17general manager of WCPO-TV for 17 years; during his time in
18Cincinnati, he also served as the chairman of the Television
19Board of the National Association of Broadcasters and was
20honored by the establishment of a City of Hope Robert D. Gordon
21Medical Research Fellowship; he retired as president and CEO
22of Boston University Communications, Inc. in 2001; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Gordon was a champion horseman, marksman,
2boat enthusiast, and golfer; he approached each hobby with
3100% dedication; upon retirement, he became interested in art
4and began his art education at the Cincinnati Art Academy; he
5became a member of the Prairie Art Alliance after he and his
6wife moved to Springfield to be near family in 2004; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Robert Gordon was preceded in death by his
8parents and his brother, John Gordon; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Gordon is survived by his wife of 72
10years, Ruby; his sons, Robert (Suzanne) Gordon Jr., Jeffrey
11(Bette) Gordon, and Gus (Claire) Gordon; his grandchildren,
12Jesse (Tina) Gordon, Joshua (Meryl) Gordon, Grace (fiancé,
13Mitchell Koenig) Gordon, Amy (Evan) Himes, John Gordon,
14Lindsay (Tommy) Dickerson, and Keri (Sean) Quinn; his
15great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sky, Avery, and River; and his
16niece, Linda Gordon; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn the passing of Robert Dyas Gordon Sr. and extend our
20sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
21and loved him; and be it further
