HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff David A. Snyders
4on the occasion of his retirement as Stephenson County Sheriff
5on November 30, 2022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has enjoyed a distinguished
744-year career in law enforcement, including 20 years with the
8City of Freeport Police Department from 1978 to 1998 serving
9in Patrol and Investigation and with the Freeport Park
10District Police during the same 20-year period serving in
11Patrol and then as chief; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders was a founding member of the
13Freeport Police and Stephenson County Emergency Response Team;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has served as Sheriff of
16Stephenson County for 24 years; he was first elected in 1998
17and is the longest serving sheriff in the history of the
18county; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has been an active member of the
20National Sheriff's Association, the Illinois Sheriff's
21Association, and the FBI National Academy Associates; he

1served in leadership positions with the Northwest Illinois Law
2Enforcement Executives Association, the Northern Illinois
3Sheriff's Association, the Northwest Criminal Justice
4Commission, and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System
5Executive Board; additionally, he was a member of the Law
6Enforcement Aviation Coalition Board; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Since 2002, Sheriff Snyders has proudly served as
8President of the Board of Directors for Tyler's Justice Center
9for Children, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to
10lessening the trauma of child victims by providing a
11sensitive, collaborative response to the investigation,
12prosecution, and treatment of child sexual abuse and serious
13physical abuse cases in Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll
14Counties; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders is a 1978 graduate of the Police
16Training Institute, a 1998 graduate of the Illinois Sheriffs
17Management Institute, a 2001 graduate of the National
18Sheriff's Institute, and a 2007 graduate of the FBI National
19Academy–229th Session; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has been a mentor to countless
21police officers and sheriff's deputies over the years and has
22set an exemplary standard of leadership and professionalism as
23a sheriff; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we commend Stephenson County Sheriff David A. Snyders on his
4distinguished 44-year career in law enforcement and wish him
5all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Sheriff Snyders as a symbol of our esteem and
8respect.
