HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The rates of unintentional injuries and deaths in
3the United States remain at unacceptable levels; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Addressing musculoskeletal disorders, educating
5on impairment, providing employers with tools to prevent
6injuries, and mitigating falls remain critical to preventing
7injuries and deaths in the United States; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The cost of unintentional injuries to Americans
9and their employers exceeds $1,097.9 billion each year and
10causes great suffering among individuals and their families;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Illinois residents and all Americans deserve to
13live in communities that promote safe and healthy living; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Preventing unintentional injuries and deaths
15requires the cooperation of all levels of government,
16employers, and the general public; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, was
18congressionally chartered in 1953 to lead this nation in
19injury prevention through safety and health information,
20education, training, and advocacy in the United States; and

1    WHEREAS, The National Safety Council and the Iowa-Illinois
2Safety Council work to promote policies, practices, and
3procedures leading to increased safety, protection, and health
4in business and industry, in schools and colleges, on roads
5and highways, and in homes and communities; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 2022, The National Safety Council and the
7Iowa-Illinois Safety Council will provide this nation with a
8month-long public education campaign; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The summer season is a time of increased rates of
10unintentional injuries and deaths; it is an appropriate time
11to focus attention on injury risks and preventions; therefore,
12be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we express our support of National Safety Month in June 2022,
16and we strongly urge the citizens and businesses of Illinois
17to observe National Safety Month by practicing safe and
18healthy behaviors in all aspects of their lives.
