HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Cancer is the second leading cause of death in
3Illinois and is the leading cause of death from disease among
4children from birth to age 14; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In 2021, an estimated 74,980 Illinoisans will be
6diagnosed with cancer, and 23,070 Illinois residents will die
7from cancer; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The upcoming 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive
9Cancer Control Plan identifies three priority areas to reduce
10the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cancer and improve
11survivorship in Illinois; the three priority areas include 1)
12Prevention, 2) Early Detection and Screening, and 3)
13Diagnosis, Treatment, and Survivorship; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The upcoming 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive
15Cancer Control Plan seeks to increase awareness of and access
16to cancer education, screening, treatment, and long-term
17survivorship care, decrease death and suffering from cancer,
18and eliminate the disparities that disproportionately affect
19those population groups who experience social, economic, and
20environmental disadvantages whether according to race,
21ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity,
22disability, religion, or language; and

1    WHEREAS, A robust community engagement strategy with
2collaboration among Illinois legislators, state departments
3and divisions, local health departments, health care systems,
4hospitals, health care providers, patients, caregivers,
5advocates, academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and
6others is needed to achieve the three priorities of the
72022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive Cancer
9Control Plan recognizes the urgent need to address cancer
10health equity and health disparities in Illinois by providing
11a framework for strategies and interventions to address
12structural and systemic barriers that can reduce the risk of
13cancer and improve the lives of Illinois residents diagnosed
14with cancer; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we urge all legislators to support and promote the 2022-2027
18Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan and to help achieve
19the three priority areas by engaging, educating, and
20empowering their constituents through community forums or
21other efforts across the state of Illinois; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That we recognize the Illinois Cancer

1Partnership and its Executive Committee for their leadership
2in the development of the 2022-2027 Illinois Comprehensive
3Cancer Plan; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we recognize the American Cancer Society,
5Anderson Hospital/Anderson Mercy Cancer Care, Cook County
6Health System, the Hope Light Foundation, the University of
7Illinois at Chicago, the University of Illinois Cancer Center,
8the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, SIHF
9Healthcare, the Blue Hat Foundation, Southern Illinois
10Healthcare, the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer
11Center, University of Chicago Medicine, and the University of
12Illinois Cancer Center for their contributions to the
13development and implementation of the 2022-2027 Illinois
14Comprehensive Cancer Plan community engagement.
