HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary
4Alice Johnson, who passed away on December 24, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Johnson was born in Forrest City, Arkansas
6to Isaac Sr. and Ella Mae Reese on May 4, 1943; at age five,
7she moved with her family to Chicago and attended Stone Temple
8Missionary Baptist Church on Chicago's west side; she attended
9Julius Hay Hess School and graduated from John Marshall High
10School; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After graduating, Mary Johnson went to work as a
12seamstress at a local cleaners on Chicago's west side; she
13married Joe Louis Johnson on October 28, 1960 and became a
14homemaker for many years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After raising her children, Mary Johnson began
16working for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) as a customer
17assistant in February 1990; she also served as a conductor and
18union representative; she was very devoted to her job; she was
19never late and never called in sick; she was loved by many of
20her coworkers, and some of them became lifelong friends; she
21retired in March 2011, after 21 years of service; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Johnson had a big heart and was one of the
2kindest people you could meet; she loved going to church, the
3casino, dining out, cooking, and dancing; most of all, she
4loved her family unconditionally; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Johnson was preceded in death by her
6husband, Joe Louis Johnson; her children, Joseph Johnson and
7Dante Johnson; her parents; her sisters, Victoria Bryant, Mae
8Ella Alexander, and Cozetta Scott; and her brother, Isaac
9Reese Jr.; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Johnson is survived by her children, Steven
11(Michelle), Landis, Cheryl (Ricky), Carla (Levertis), and
12Corey (Lasina); 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren;
13her brother, Joe Watts; her special sister-in-law, Gennell
14Reese; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and
15coworkers; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Mary Alice Johnson and extend our
19sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
20and loved her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Mary Johnson as an expression of our
