HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4Fitzgerald Barrington Davis, who passed away on November 1,
52021; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis was born to Barrington and
7Gwendolyn Davis on May 15, 1944; as a child, he had an interest
8in engineering and construction, and at the age of 13, he
9started training with one of his community's finest
10carpenters; he attended Rennock Lodge Government School and
11graduated from Saint Ann Technical Trade School; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis held several different positions
13in both the private and public sectors; early in his career, he
14worked as a contractor for Gores Brothers and was regarded as
15one of the best in his profession; he was recruited to a
16supervisory position with the Pioneer Corporation and
17ultimately served as a contractor for the Roads and Works
18Department in Kingston, Jamaica, where he oversaw the
19development of critical infrastructure projects and roads in
20and around the Kingston area; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis understood that his job was more
22than just repairing roads and buildings and could benefit

1underserved families through community development and jobs;
2he created programs to help young people learn trades and
3develop their skills; he subsequently employed many of these
4young people and provided them with opportunities for growth,
5which improved the quality of life for residents and
6strengthened his community; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis sought opportunities to empower
8others and to care for the most vulnerable people in his
9community; his advocacy for underserved populations led him to
10a career in politics; he was chairman of the People's National
11Party and was the youth leader for the Rennock Lodge Youth
12Organization; during his time as chairman, he worked with
13government leaders to improve conditions for children and
14families in Kingston; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis immigrated to the United States
16in January of 1981 and settled in the Rogers Park neighborhood
17of Chicago with his wife and children; his first job was with
18St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, followed by a position with
19a tuckpointing company; he then worked for the Village of
20Glencoe for 16 years, retiring in 2006; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis continued to serve his community
22as a volunteer for numerous nonprofit organizations after his
23retirement; he was also actively involved with the Democratic

1Party of Evanston and worked as a crossing guard for the city;
2he deeply enjoyed serving as a crossing guard and woke up each
3morning looking forward to seeing the children along his path
4and brightening their day with words of encouragement or a
5witty quip that made them smile; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis was an elder at First Church of
7God Christian Life Center in Evanston and then became an Elder
8at Deliverance Temple Church in Skokie; his faith was the
9driving force in his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of
10faith, unconditional love, and kindness; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis is survived by his devoted wife
12of 49 years, Sonia Davis; his daughters, Rose Scott and Karen
13Davis; his sons, Byron (Marie) Davis, Lloyd (Loraine) Davis,
14and Dave (Tara) Davis; his grandchildren, Klarissa Davis,
15Lloyd Davis Jr., Kayla Davis, Leah Davis, Theo Davis, and
16Steven Davis; his great-grandchildren, Ivy and Oakley; his
17brothers, Philip and Chris Davis; his sisters, Deloris Scott,
18Beverly Burnett, and Angela Lodge; and numerous other loving
19relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we mourn the passing of Fitzgerald Barrington Davis and extend
23our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who

1knew and loved him; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Fitzgerald Davis as an expression
4of our deepest sympathy.
