HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dora
4Jean Nash-Foster of Chicago, who passed away on June 12, 2021;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was born in Chicago to
7Jewel and Dora Mae Woods-Nash on September 28, 1944; she
8attended Sexton Elementary School and Jenner Elementary
9School; she graduated from Wells High School at the age of 16
10in 1961; she earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology and her
11master's degree in Vocational Guidance and Counseling from
12Roosevelt University in Chicago; she obtained several
13certifications and earned many continuing education credits in
14a variety of subjects as she maintained her state licenses;
15she married Becelone Foster on December 19, 1964; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster worked in the public
17service sector for the majority of her life; she held a number
18of positions, including Audio/Visual specialist at Ogden
19Elementary, Education Advisor and Community Liaison at Jesse
20White's Community Service Center, salesperson at Sears, and
21case manager with the Illinois Department of Public Aid; she
22later became a teacher; she began as an 8th grade teacher and
23then taught pre-school and pre-kindergarten at Mulligan

1Elementary School and Manierre Elementary School before
2working permanently at Byrd Academy; prior to retirement, she
3worked as a counselor for students at Harold Washington
4College; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was a faithful member of
6several organizations, including both the local and national
7P.T.A. since 1968, AFSCME and the Chicago Teacher's Unions for
830 years, the 42nd Ward Democratic Organization for over 13
9years, and the Rainbow P.U.S.H. Coalition led by Reverend
10Jesse Jackson; she committed to her faith from a young age; she
11was baptized at and a charter member of Gospel Temple
12Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend
13J.M. Royston, where she had served as an annual tea captain, a
14Sunday School teacher, and a Mother's Board member; she also
15attended service weekly until illness no longer allowed her to
16be physically present; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster loved traveling, especially
18with her traveling buddies Barbara Smith, Joyce Brisco, and
19Deborah Alexander, and one of her fondest memories was
20traveling to her granddaughter's college graduation in New
21Orleans, Louisiana; she was also fluent in Spanish, and she
22loved demonstrating her skills when she dined at Mexican
23restaurants; and

1    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was a loving, nurturing,
2and supportive mother and grandmother; she was a model to her
3family of the importance of being a lifelong learner; she
4affectionately referred to her granddaughters as her "boogies"
5and was adamant about spending time with them as they grew
6older; she will always be remembered for her vibrant smile,
7her warm heart, her African and animal print attire, and her
8signature red lipstick; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was preceded in death by
10her grandparents; her parents; her brother, Glen Jewel
11"Scooter" Nash; her granddaughter, Fiona Lanese Nash; her
12aunts and uncles; her cousin, Patricia Bradley; and her best
13friend and sister, Barbara Smith; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster is survived by her sons,
15Craig Eugene Nash and Cary Allen Foster; her daughter-in-law,
16Debra Nash; her granddaughters, Serena Spring Thomas (Andrew)
17and Jessica Shante Nash; her great-grandson due in October
182021; her niece, Tandolyn Harris; her best friends and
19sisters, Mary "Mae C" Booker and Joyce Brisco; her
20godchildren, Andrew Brisco, Daneka Booker, and Nikki Booker;
21and a host of cousins, family, friends, and colleagues;
22therefore, be it
 
23    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn the passing of Dora Jean Nash-Foster and extend our
3sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
4and loved her; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Dora Jean Nash-Foster as an
7expression of our deepest sympathy.
