HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the 2020-2021 Lake Land
4College Women's Basketball Team, the Lakers, on their
5outstanding season this past year; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Lakers had a final record of 25-2, which
7featured wins against 10 nationally ranked opponents and a 16
8game winning streak; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The Lakers closed the season with a 53-49 win
10against the Johnson County Cavaliers to secure the program's
11first ever NJCAA National Championship; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Lake Land College women also won the NJCAA
13Region 24 Championship and the NJCAA District Central A
14Championship on their way to the National Championship; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Lake Land College Women's Basketball Team is
16coached by Dave Johnson, who was named NJCAA Division II
17Women's Basketball Coach of the Year and NJCAA Nationals Coach
18of the Tournament; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Lakers were led by star players Kamaria Gant,
20an NJCAA All-American, Tre'soir Newson, who was named to the

1NJCAA National All-Tournament Team, and Harley Barry, who
2earned the NJCAA National Tournament Most Valuable Player
3Award; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The Lake Land College Women's Basketball Team was
5successful off the court as well; they posted a team Grade
6Point Average of 3.48 and had five Academic All-Americans; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Lake Land College Women's Basketball Team
8perfectly exemplified what it means to be student-athletes by
9excelling both on the basketball court and in the classroom;
10therefore; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate the Lake Land College Women's Basketball Team,
14the Lakers, for winning the NCJAA National Championship and
15for their season as a whole; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17presented to the members and coaches of the Lake Land College
18Women's Basketball Team as symbol of our esteem and respect.
