HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Jo Ann Armenta of Elgin on her
4lifetime service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jo Ann Armenta was the first member of her family
6to earn a college degree; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jo Ann Armenta was the first Hispanic woman to
8join the Illinois State Police and was the first Hispanic
9woman in the department to be promoted to sergeant; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jo Ann Armenta was the first Hispanic woman to be
11named to the Human Rights Commission in Elgin and the first
12Hispanic woman to be elected president of Illinois Women in
13Law Enforcement, an organization she helped establish in 1985;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1973, Jo Ann Armenta earned a Bachelor of Arts
16in literature of romance languages from the University of
17Illinois at Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After college, Jo Ann Armenta did a variety of
19work, including clothing design, but was intrigued by the idea
20of becoming a police officer after her father saw an

1advertisement for the State Police; she moved to Elgin when
2she joined the State Police; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jo Ann Armenta worked with the subcommittee on
4women and minority issues of the DuPage Chiefs of Police
5Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Through Jo Ann Armenta's work, both as a police
7officer and a volunteer, she has shown determination and a
8commitment to her community and to improving the lives of
9others; she has been a mentor for young Hispanic girls from the
10northwest suburbs; reaching out to help others is something
11she always has felt is important because others helped her own
12family; her motivation has always been to make a difference;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we commend Jo Ann Armenta on her lifetime of service and
17accomplishments; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Jo Ann Armenta as a symbol of our esteem and
20respect.
