HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Raymond
4Leroy Buckner, who passed away on April 23, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner was born in Chicago to Rev.
6Elijah T. Sr. and Essie Mae (Mitchell) Buckner on July 29,
71947; he attended Parker High School in Chicago's Englewood
8neighborhood, where he was a stand out wrestler; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner found interest and joy in music,
10both as an instrumentalist and a vocalist, playing the piano,
11guitar, and alto saxophone; he was influenced by fellow
12Chicago musicians Jerry Butler, Sam Cooke, and Curtis
13Mayfield, with whom he would later collaborate; he made his
14recording debut with his brothers for the Sanla label in 1968
15with their first song, Love You From The Bottom of My Heart;
16the group later changed their name to Buck and the 16th
17Movement and later signed with Hugh Heffner's Playboy Records;
18he continued to play music professionally for the remainder of
19his life; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner was also an accomplished visual
21artist, mastering oil and acrylic painting; he was mentored by
22the famous artist and graphic designer Thomas Miller; and

1    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner began a career in law enforcement
2in 1980 and worked as a Deputy Cook County Sheriff until his
3retirement in 2004, achieving the rank of sergeant; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner married Yvonne Wynn on October
523, 1983; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Raymond Buckner is survived by his wife, Yvonne
7Wynn-Buckner; his daughters, Artiya (David), Natasha (Jorge),
8Lisa (Kenneth), and Kamille; his son, Kambium; and his
9grandsons, Donnovan, Dillon, Durrell, and Kenneth Jr.;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Raymond Leroy Buckner and extend our
14sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Raymond Buckner as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
