HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives wants to
3recognize the contributions and career of Scott J. Helton,
4Ed.D., Superintendent of DuPage High School District 88, who
5tragically passed away on December 10, 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton had more than 33 years of experience
7in education and served in a variety of capacities, including
8as principal of Addison Trail High School for 11 years and as
9superintendent of DuPage High School District 88 since 2012;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was an educator who was passionate
12about advancing the education of students entrusted to his
13care; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton had a tremendous ability to connect
15with and care for students; he made a positive difference in
16the lives of countless individuals; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton could always be seen in the school
18auditorium during theater events and music concerts and on the
19field or in the gym at athletic competitions, cheering on each
20and every student; he never missed an opportunity to celebrate
21student success; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton believed each child could reach his or
2her full potential; he championed student success and always
3put the needs of students first; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was laser focused in his pursuit of
5accomplishing District 88's mission to work for the continuous
6improvement of student achievement; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was not merely an educational advocate
8for District 88 but for students throughout DuPage County and
9the State of Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton's passion and dedication to build
11futures for students were second to none; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton continuously implemented programs and
13services to help all students; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was constantly thinking about the
15future and worked to enhance the district's Strategic Plan;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was a fierce advocate for equity; he
18worked to ensure all students, staff, parents, and community
19members felt welcome and safe, and he celebrated the diversity

1of the community; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton partnered and worked closely with
3local leaders and legislators to improve the district and
4community; he was deeply ingrained in the District 88
5community and frequently volunteered to help those in need;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was a loving and devoted father to his
8three sons, Scott Jr., Joe, and Tommy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton was a tremendous leader, mentor,
10community pillar, person, and friend; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Helton will be greatly missed and remembered
12for his leadership, friendship, spirit, teamwork, and
13commitment; his legacy, in both his sons and the students he
14served, will live on for years to come; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we recognize the contributions and career of Scott J. Helton,
18Ed.D. and his more than 19 years of dedicated service to the
19Board of Education of DuPage High School District 88; and be it

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Scott J. Helton, Ed.D., and the
3Board of Education of DuPage High School District 88 as an
4expression of our respect and esteem.
