HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 11

 
2    WHEREAS, Private First Class Andrew N. Meari was assigned
3to service in Afghanistan as a member of 1st Battalion, 502nd
4Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne
5Division (Air Assault); and
 
6    WHEREAS, While returning from active patrol on November 1,
72010 at a location adjacent to Combat Outpost Senjeray, a
8motorcycle approached the foot patrol; anticipating the
9explosion, PFC Meari stepped toward the vehicle-borne suicide
10bomber, absorbing the majority of the explosion and protecting
11his squad mates; despite his heroic efforts, PFC Meari and one
12other member of his squad were fatally wounded; and
 
13    WHEREAS, PFC Meari was killed in action in Afghanistan on
14November 1, 2010 under circumstances that saved multiple lives
15in the combat outpost that was under attack; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The memory of PFC Meari and his heroic service is
17commemorated by his neighbors with PFC Andrew Meari Memorial
18Park, located in his home town of Plainfield; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
21SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of

1Illinois Route 59 from Caton Farm Road to Illinois Route 126 as
2the "PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway"; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
4is requested to erect, at suitable locations consistent with
5State and Federal regulations, an appropriate plaque or signs
6giving notice of the name "PFC Andrew Meari Memorial Highway";
7and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9presented to Denise Williams of Plainfield, the mother of
10Private First Class Andrew N. Meari, and the Secretary of the
11Illinois Department of Transportation.
