SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 1305/1-75 new

    Amends the Department of Human Services Act. Requires the Department of Human Services to establish and administer a grant program to provide grants to licensed day care facilities that are open 24 hours a day and give priority to serving the children of first responders. Provides that program grants must be used to provide subsidized child care services to the children of first responders. Provides that day care facilities seeking grants under the program may apply to the Department in a form and manner prescribed by the Department. Provides that the Department may adopt any rules necessary to implement the program.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is amended
5by adding Section 1-75 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 1305/1-75 new)
7    Sec. 1-75. Grants; day care facilities; children of first
8responders.
9    (a) As used in this Section, "first responder" includes:
10(1) emergency medical services personnel as defined in the
11Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act; (2)
12firefighters; and (3) law enforcement officers.
13    (b) The Department of Human Services shall establish and
14administer a grant program to provide grants to licensed day
15care facilities that (1) are open 24 hours a day and (2) give
16priority to serving the children of first responders. Grants
17provided under the program must be used to provide subsidized
18child care services to the children of first responders. Day
19care facilities seeking grants under the program must apply to
20the Department in a form and manner prescribed by the
21Department. The Department may adopt any rules necessary to
22implement the program.
