SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 5/12-6.2-5 new

    Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Creates the offense of extortion when a person knowingly obtains, or causes to be obtained, property, services, something of value, advantage or immunity, from another person, with that person's consent, when the consent is induced by wrongful use of the threat of fear or actual or threatened force, violence, or under color of official right. Provides that extortion is a Class 3 felony.

1    AN ACT concerning Criminal Law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by adding
5Section 12-6.2-5 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 5/12-6.2-5 new)
7    Sec. 12-6.2-5. Extortion.
8    (a) A person commits extortion when he or she knowingly
9obtains, or causes to be obtained, property, services,
10something of value, advantage or immunity, from another
11person, with that person's consent, when the consent is
12induced by wrongful use of the threat of fear or actual or
13threatened force, violence, or under color of official right.
14    (b) Sentence. Extortion is a Class 3 felony.
