SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 140/2.17 new

    Amends the Freedom of Information Act. Provides that, if funds are appropriated to the Department of Transportation in connection with recording devices on roadways for the purposes of public safety, the Department shall not withhold information regarding the timing and installation of the recording devices in response to a request from a current member of the General Assembly. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall not withhold from any current member of the General Assembly information relating to: (1) the installation of cameras on public roadways for public safety reasons; or (2) documents, communications, and materials relating to traffic studies; feasibility studies; accident or safety reports associated with red light cameras in the legislative district of such a member of the General Assembly. Provides that, if the information would otherwise be exempt from disclosure under the Act, the information shall be made available only to a member of the General Assembly no later than 5 business days after the date of the request. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Freedom of Information Act is amended by
5adding Section 2.17 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 140/2.17 new)
7    Sec. 2.17. Department of Transportation public safety
8devices.
9    (a) If funds are appropriated to the Department of
10Transportation in connection with recording devices on
11roadways for the purposes of public safety, the Department
12shall not withhold information regarding the timing and
13installation of the recording devices in response to a request
14from a current member of the General Assembly.
15    (b) The Department of Transportation shall not withhold
16from any current member of the General Assembly information
17relating to:
18        (1) the installation of cameras on public roadways for
19    public safety reasons; or
20        (2) documents, communications, and materials relating
21    to traffic studies; feasibility studies; accident or
22    safety reports associated with red light cameras in the

2    (c) If the information described under subsections (a) and
3(b) would otherwise be exempt from disclosure under Section 7
4or 7.5, the information shall be made available only to a
5member of the General Assembly no later than 5 business days
6after the date of the request.
 
7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
