SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Allen Hallberg Myers of Moline, who
4passed away on July 20, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Allen Myers was born to Alson and Myrtle
6(Hallberg) Myers near Centralia on November 3, 1931; he
7attended Centralia High School and then Southern Illinois
8University, earning a degree in geology and geography in 1952;
9after graduation, he enlisted in the Navy; he started
10electronics training on Treasure Island in San Francisco and
11then attended officer candidate school in Providence, Rhode
12Island, commissioning as a lieutenant junior grade; he married
13Lena Pantaleo in Du Quoin on July 13, 1953, and they moved to
14Monterey, California for his post-graduate studies before
15relocating to San Diego, where he served as head electronics
16officer on the USS Winston; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Upon leaving the Navy in 1956, Allen Myers joined
18his father in running the family farm, Myers Orchards; after
19selling the farm in 1990, he went into business development at
20Kaskaskia College and then became a real estate broker with
21Coldwell Banker; over the course of his career, he earned
22numerous awards with the Illinois Association of Realtors; and

1    WHEREAS, Allen Myers served as President of the Illinois
2Horticultural Society and as Board President of the Centralia
3First Christian Church; he was a member of the Rotary Club and
4the Shriners Club; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Allen Myers is survived by his wife, Lena Myers;
6his children, Chris Myers (Janet M. Myers), Brian Myers, and
7Janet K. Myers; his grandchildren, Laura Sivertsen (Matt
8Sivertsen), Andrea Myers (Drew Cunningham), and Leah
9Zimmermann (Adam Zimmermann); his great-grandchildren,
10Christopher Sivertsen and Abraham Zimmermann; his sisters,
11Mary Renfro (Lloyd Shaw), Jean Hutter, and Rose Davidson; and
12his beloved nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Allen Hallberg Myers and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Allen Myers as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
