2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was born in Chicago to
| ||||||
5 | Rodney A. Sr. and Antoinette Lewis on May 9, 1979; he graduated | ||||||
6 | from Rich Central High School in 1997; he was very studious and | ||||||
7 | felt it was important to understand history and African | ||||||
8 | culture; he joined the U.S. Army
as a track vehicle mechanic | ||||||
9 | and spent his first three years stationed in Germany; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis left the military
and spent | ||||||
11 | some time as a civilian recruiter; he worked as an interstate | ||||||
12 | truck driver and, after visiting most of the big cities in the | ||||||
13 | U.S., felt that Chicago was the greatest of them all; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis re-enlisted in the military | ||||||
15 | as a
motor transport/truck driver; he soon decided to become a | ||||||
16 | logistical officer; he attended Officer Candidate School and | ||||||
17 | was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant
Transportation Officer | ||||||
18 | in 2011; after achieving his goal of becoming an officer,
he | ||||||
19 | continued to travel the world, visiting Germany,
Kosovo, Ghana, | ||||||
20 | France, the Dominican Republic, China, Ireland, Thailand, the | ||||||
21 | Philippines, and
Canada; during this time, he completed his | ||||||
22 | Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Strayer

1 | University; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was serving in Afghanistan | ||||||
3 | in 2012 when he met Yalena Lopez; he was stationed in Korea | ||||||
4 | from 2015 to 2017; he and Yalena were married on March 25, | ||||||
5 | 2018; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, After 14 years of military service,
Captain | ||||||
7 | Antoine Lewis was a highly decorated captain and received | ||||||
8 | numerous awards and honors; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was committed to life-long | ||||||
10 | learning, loved all people, attended church faithfully, and was | ||||||
11 | devoted to illuminating the beauty and richness of Africa; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis was preceded in death by his | ||||||
13 | sister, Kristina Lynn Lewis; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Captain Antoine Lewis is survived by his wife,
| ||||||
15 | Yalena Lopez-Lewis, his sons, Antoine Marvin Lewis Jr. and | ||||||
16 | Messiah Phelps; his parents; and his siblings, Ronetta Hoskins, | ||||||
17 | Rodney (Terry) Lewis Jr., Antoinette Lewis Jr., Monica (Marcus) | ||||||
18 | Wilson, Markita Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Angelo Lewis; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
2 | Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
3 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
4 | it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Captain Antoine Lewis as an | ||||||
7 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
