SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Earl "Bobby" Washington, who
4passed away on October 17, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Washington was born in rural Yazoo County,
6Mississippi to Louise Washington Abshaw on June 16, 1944; he
7married Evelyn Woodard Townes; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1967, Robert Washington's passion for
9restoring old cars became full-time employment when he opened
10his first auto shop, Southwest Auto, in Chicago; he later
11opened another repair shop, Fair Deal Auto, and ran the shop
12until he went to work for Target in 2009; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Robert Washington was baptized at St. Paul M.B.
14Church in Bentoma, Mississippi; after relocating to Chicago, he
15joined Green Grove M.B. Church, which he attended faithfully
16for over 40 years before leaving; he fell ill before he could
17join a new congregation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Washington was preceded in death by his
19son, Jerome Washington; his mother, Louise Abshaw; his
20stepfather, Daddy Cary; his biological father, Frank Vaugh; his
21brothers, James Jones, George Washington Jr., and Wade Vaugh;

1and his sisters, Betty Brown and Maybell Powers; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Robert Washington is survived by his wife, Evelyn
3Marie; his son, Nicklous Terell Washington; his daughters,
4Tiffney Renee Washington, Robin Washington, and Barbara Berry;
5his grandchildren, Kenneth, Nicklous, and Angelese Washington;
6his sisters, Jeania Gary, Gloria (Willie) Wynn, and Bettie J.
7Vaughan; his sisters-in-law, Odessa Jones, Rudene Abshaw,
8Wendelin Woodard, Rosa Miller, and Beverly Johnson; his
9extended siblings, Bobby Sam Wilkerson, Frankie (Ned) Rushing,
10Mattie Bell, and Willie Barry; his aunts, Clara Davis and Sybil
11Harris; his caretaker, Margaret Gilbert; and numerous nephews,
12nieces, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Robert Earl "Bobby" Washington and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Robert Washington as an expression
20of our deepest sympathy.
