SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Keith Randall Erickson of Urbana, who
4passed away on April 26, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was born in Chicago to Robert and
6Emilie (Sasko) Erickson on November 14, 1948; he graduated from
7Maine South High School in Park Ridge and attended Bradley
8University; he received his bachelor's degree in electrical
9engineering from the University of Illinois and married
10Virginia Peverly in Clinton on July 26, 1980; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was employed by the University of
12Illinois's Facilities and Services division for 40 years, most
13recently as the associate director of Utilities & Energy
14Services Distribution; he was an integral part of the
15construction of the university's solar farm; he was also
16employed part time as an electrical expert by Ruhl Forensic,
17Inc.; he was elected vice president of small utilities to the
18J.U.L.I.E. Board of Directors and was appointed the energy
19sector chief with InfraGard, a civilian FBI partner
20organization; he successfully completed the FBI Citizens
21Academy program; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was a member of the Illinois and

1the National Society of Professional Engineers, the
2International Association of Arson Investigators, the National
3Safety Council, and the International Association of
4Electrical Inspectors; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was the recipient of numerous
6awards during his professional career, including the Cecil
7Coleman Award for public safety, the Chancellor's Academic
8Professional Excellence Award, and the ISPE Professional
9Engineering Management Award; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was an advocate of personal
11integrity and public safety; he served on the City of Urbana
12Building Safety Code Board of Appeals, the City of Urbana
13Property Maintenance Code Board of Appeals, and the Champaign
14County Local Emergency Planning Committee; he was also a
15Republican precinct committeeman in Champaign County and a
16charter member of Copper Creek Church in Champaign; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson supported his children in their
18activities by coaching soccer, attending games, and timing swim
19meets; he was always eager to share his engineering and
20electrical knowledge with young students, Scouts, and
21university students; he was a judge for many years at the
22Engineering Open House; his favorite activities were spending
23time with his family, cheering on the Illini football and

1basketball teams, patrolling campus on foot with his cocker
2spaniel Coco, and vacationing in Door County, Wisconsin; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson was preceded in death by his
4parents and his sister, Karen Potts; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Keith Erickson is survived by his wife, Virginia;
6his children, Cynthia (Bob) Heren and Kevin (Kari) Erickson;
7and his grandchildren, Lydia, Caleb, and Andrew; therefore, be
8it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Keith Randall Erickson and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Keith Erickson as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
