SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Annabel Abraham, who passed away on
4October 5, 2018 at the age of 97; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was born in Syracuse, New York in
61921; when she was very young, she traveled to Europe with her
7mother, where she attended school in Geneva, Switzerland; she
8graduated high school and attended Northwestern University at
9the age of 15, where she earned a Master of Arts in Speech
10Therapy; she received a medal from the Italian Government for
11her mastery of Italian; she married Bernard M. Abraham; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham began her teaching career in Gary,
13Indiana, working to help support her husband as he finished his
14Ph.D. in chemistry; in 1953, she and her husband moved to Oak
15Park, where she taught in parochial and public schools and also
16helped stroke patients who were suffering from aphasia; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham supported her husband, Bernard,
18throughout his career of elected public service in Oak Park;
19following his death, she continued to be active in informal
20public service; she volunteered at the Ernest Hemingway
21Foundation and was an advocate for improved handicap access;

1    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was an avid knitter and enjoyed
2browsing flea markets, estate sales, and thrift shops; she
3encouraged her children to read extensively, visit museums, and
4explore their talents and interests; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham was preceded in death by her
6husband, Bernard, and her eldest son, Oren Carmi; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Annabel Abraham is survived by her children,
8Daniel, Jesse (Amy Peck), and Abigail; her grandsons, David and
9Jeremy; and her many friends; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Annabel Abraham and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Annabel Abraham as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
