HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Francis P. "Frank"
4Rossiter Jr., M.D. of Savannah, Georgia on being inducted into
5the Irish America Hall of Fame in New Ross, County Wexford,
6Ireland; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter is one of only 59 people to be
8inducted since the Irish America Hall of Fame was founded by
9Irish America Magazine in 2010; the honor recognizes
10individuals in the Irish American community who have made an
11impact on the Irish in America and who have bridged the gap
12between the U.S. and Ireland; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter's great-grandparents, Patrick
14Rossiter and Anne Corrigan, were Irish emigrants from County
15Wexford; he was born to the late, former Savannah Mayor Pro-Tem
16Frank P. and Inez Coleman Rossiter; he is a native of Savannah;
17he attended Benedictine Military School, Armstrong College,
18the University of Georgia, and the Medical College of Georgia;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to
211974, rising from the rank of second lieutenant to lieutenant
22colonel; during this time, he was appointed chief of pediatric

1services at Fort Ord on Monterey Bay, California, before
2returning to Savannah; he then served 20 years in the Georgia
3Army National Guard, spending the last 15 years as a colonel;
4he was honored with the rank of brigadier general when he
5retired in 2000; and
 
6    WHEREAS, During his medical career, Dr. Rossiter served in
7various roles in several healthcare systems located in Georgia,
8including St. Joseph's/Candler, Memorial Health, and Georgia
9Regional Hospital; he also served on the Backus Children's
10Hospital Advisory Board, the Ethics Committee, the Medical
11Advisory Committee as chairman, and the Department of
12Pediatrics as chairman; he retired from his medical practice in
13June 2003; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Rossiter was involved in a
15number of organizations and events, including the Chatham
16Artillery Association as president, the Hibernian Society, and
17the Armstrong Foundation Board of Directors; he was the Grand
18Marshal of the 2008 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah,
19following in the footsteps of his father who was Grand Marshal
20in 1972; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Rossiter serves on the Mercer
22University School of Medicine-Savannah Board of Governors, the
23Chatham County Hospital Authority, the Memorial Health

1University Board of Directors, the Diocese of Savannah Finance
2Council, and the Rourke Foundation as chairman; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Rossiter is married to Glenda Nelson, and they
4have been married for 48 years; they have three children and
5five grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Francis P. "Frank" Rossiter Jr., M.D. of
9Savannah, Georgia on being inducted into the Irish America Hall
10of Fame in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Dr. Rossiter Jr. as an expression of our esteem
13and respect.
