HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dan Moy
4of Jacksonville, who passed away on March 19, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dan Moy was born in Jacksonville to Edward V. and
6Frances Shelton Moy on July 17, 1939; he graduated from
7Jacksonville High School in 1957; he continued his education at
8Western Illinois University and later received a master's
9degree in education from Fisk University in Nashville,
10Tennessee; he married Patricia "Patsy" Marie in Jacksonville on
11June 9, 1963; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dan Moy inspired students and taught chemistry at
13Jacksonville High School for over 35 years; he also served as
14the head cross country coach, girls' track coach, and freshman
15football coach; he was a well-respected IHSA track official for
1648 years and served as the official score keeper for the 1985
17IHSA State Basketball Tournament; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dan Moy had an affinity for helping others; he
19founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle at
20Jacksonville High School and served as a patient ombudsman in
21area nursing homes; he also volunteered for the Salvation Army
22and Habitat for Humanity and served on the Wells Center Board

1of Directors from 1997 until 2003; he continued his love of
2running by organizing the 4th of July 5K Race at Nichols Park;
3he was an official judge for Illinois State Fair harness racing
4events, as well as the Iowa county fair circuit; he served as a
5member of the Police & Fire Commission for the City of
6Jacksonville and was a longtime member of the Jacksonville
7Children's Foundation Board of Directors; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedicated service to the
9community, Dan Moy was honored with the Unity in the Community
10Award in 2014 and was named the Kiwanis Lay Person of the Year
11in both 1983 and 2012; he was also named Man of the Year by both
12the YMCA and the Jacksonville Elks Club and was inducted into
13the Jacksonville High School Sports Hall of Fame; in 1995, he
14was inducted into the Illinois Track & Cross County Coaches
15Association Hall of Fame; in honor of his long service,
16volunteerism, and devotion to student athletes across Central
17Illinois, the Jacksonville High School Invitational Cross
18Country meet held in Community Park each fall was renamed the
19Dan Moy Invitational; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dan Moy was a member of Grace United Methodist
21Church; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Dan Moy is survived by his wife, Patsy; his
23children, Anne Marie Moy and Doug Moy; his grandchildren, Erin

2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we mourn the passing of Dan Moy and extend our sincere
6condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
7him; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Dan Moy as an expression of our
10esteem and respect.
