HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The citizens of Illinois are continually taxed
3more and more each year; and
 
4    WHEREAS, These taxes make Illinois inhospitable to both
5citizens and businesses alike; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The citizens of Illinois are already faced with
7some of the highest taxes in the nation; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has already enacted a
9seven-cent "bag tax" on plastic grocery bags; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Many citizens have publicly expressed their
11displeasure with Governor Pritzker's proposed statewide bag
12tax, vowing to use tote bags or even their hands; and
 
13    WHEREAS, This will likely result in the bag tax falling
14well short of the $20 million in new revenue that Governor
15Pritzker has predicted it will bring in; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The citizens of Illinois are already faced with so
17many aspects of their lives being taxed at ever-increasing
18rates; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we urge the Illinois General Assembly to oppose the
4implementation of any tax on plastic grocery bags in 2019 and
5beyond; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7delivered to Governor Pritzker and each member of the Illinois
8General Assembly.
