HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commend Mary Patton, 82 years young, on
4her continuing work as a volunteer lobbyist for AARP; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Patton is an outspoken champion on policies
6regarding elder abuse and financial exploitation; she believes
7in empowering all citizens to raise their voices to make a
8difference; she has served as an AARP Illinois lobbyist for 20
9years and represents Peoria County and AARP as a member of the
10Peoria County Human Services Transportation Plan Steering
11Committee; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Patton served on the AARP IL Executive
13Council, where she championed consumer protections and senior
14services for all residents of the State; she was a key advisor
15and AARP champion during the nursing home reform negotiations
16and law drafting in 2010; she was featured as an AARP Illinois
17spokesperson in local and statewide media coverage and was
18featured in AARP's national January publication on the budget
19and fiscal climate in Illinois; she was part of the
20negotiations in addressing Statehouse reforms of both the power
21of attorney statutes and pay day lending, as well as the issue
22of security freeze usage on credit reports in Illinois; she was
23awarded the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service; and

1    WHEREAS, Mary Patton is ardently concerned about
2safeguarding the landline services of seniors and maintaining
3low rates on utilities; she has fought to protect home and
4community-based funding for the aging populations in Illinois
5and their family caregivers; she lobbied for five years to
6enact the Secure Choice into State law; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mary Patton is a passionate member of the Illinois
8League of Women Voters and has heightened the recognition of
9women through her work; she possesses an unbreakable spirit and
10is known around the rail as an outspoken champion for the
1150-plus population; and
 
12    WHEREAS, A mother and a grandmother, Mary Patton is a
1355-year resident of Peoria and has been married to her husband,
14Dean, for 55 years; she is an active member of All Saints Greek
15Orthodox Church in Peoria; she shaped the minds and spirits of
16countless Peoria elementary students as a science teacher in
17Peoria's elementary school system and also taught high school
18science for Air Force Dependents Schools in England and
19Newfoundland; she was elected Peoria County Circuit Clerk three
20times; she has been an unwavering voice for the protection and
21enhancement of all services for the aging population in
22Illinois and family caregivers; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we commend Mary Patton for her continued work in support of the
4aging population in Illinois; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Mary Patton as an expression of our esteem and
7respect.
