HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In late summer and the fall of 2017, sexual
3harassment claims nationwide began to come to light with a
4rapid pace; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The concerns regarding sexual harassment in
6Illinois politics came to the forefront following a letter
7signed by over 150 men and women that detailed sexual
8harassment over the years; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Legislation began moving through the Illinois
10Legislature that prohibited sexual harassment, increased
11requirements in personnel policies, required mandatory
12training, and required local governments to have sexual
13harassment policies; and
 
14    WHEREAS, This culture is not limited to state government;
15Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle learned in March
16of 2018 that her chief of staff had been behaving
17inappropriately towards women; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Toni Preckwinkle took no action until September of
192018 when she fired her chief of staff, alleging that she
20learned of the allegations only a few days before; and

1    WHEREAS, Toni Preckwinkle has stated that she has made the
2prohibition of harassment, including the prohibition of sexual
3harassment, a priority; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The egregious six month delay in action by Toni
5Preckwinkle is contrary to her statement that the prohibition
6of sexual harassment is a priority; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we urge the Cook County Board to investigate Cook County Board
10President Toni Preckwinkle's six month delay in firing her
11chief of staff for inappropriate behavior; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13delivered to the Cook County Board.
