SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
735 ILCS 5/2-2302 new

    Amends the Code of Civil Procedure. Provides that, unless the inclusion of sensitive data is required by law or rule, if a party receiving money from a settlement is a minor or a person with a disability, or was a minor when the action was filed, the terms of the settlement shall be sealed or the settlement shall redact sensitive information, as the court in its discretion shall rule in order to protect the interests of the party receiving the settlement money.

1    AN ACT concerning civil law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Code of Civil Procedure is amended by adding
5Section 2-2302 as follows:
 
6    (735 ILCS 5/2-2302 new)
7    Sec. 2-2302. Privacy of information in certain
8settlements. Unless the inclusion of sensitive data is required
9by law or rule, if a party receiving money from a settlement is
10a minor or a person with a disability, or was a minor when the
11action was filed, the terms of the settlement shall be sealed
12or the settlement shall redact sensitive information, as the
13court in its discretion shall rule in order to protect the
14interests of the party receiving the settlement money. As used
15in this Section, "sensitive information" includes:
16        (1) personal identity information as defined in
17    Supreme Court Rule 138; and
18        (2) the birth date, home address, and name of any
19    person who was a minor when the action was filed.
