SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/29-21 new

    Amends the Election Code. Prohibits a person from knowingly maintaining more than one registration to vote. Provides that a violation involving multiple registrations within the State is a Class A misdemeanor. Provides that a violation involving multiple registrations in this State and another state is a Class 4 felony. Provides an affirmative defense to the violation.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section
529-21 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/29-21 new)
7    Sec. 29-21. Registering more than once. No person may
8knowingly maintain more than one registration to vote. A
9violation of this Section involving multiple registrations
10within the State is a Class A misdemeanor; a violation of this
11Section involving multiple registrations, where one or more
12registrations is within this State and one or more registration
13is within another state, is a Class 4 felony. It is an
14affirmative defense to a violation of this Section that the
15individual has voted only once in any election for which the
16individual has more than one registration to vote.
