SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Jack" Lyle, who passed away on
4January 5, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Lyle graduated from Englewood High School and
6was inspired by his mother, the singer Ernestine Lyle, who
7enrolled him in piano and violin lessons; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Jack Lyle was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, the
9nation's first black fighter squadron, who were among the most
10skilled pilots during World War II; he named his plane
11"Natalie" in honor of his first wife and was credited with
12shooting down a German Messerchmitt; in 2007, President George
13W. Bush and Congress bestowed the Congressional Gold Medal on
14him and the other Tuskegee Airmen; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After the war, Jack Lyle worked as a Chicago
16police officer with the park district and operated a tree
17trimming company; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jack Lyle enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jack Lyle is survived by his wife of 37 years,
20Eunice, and his stepchildren, Cynthia Kincey, Kathy Holliday,

1and John Jackson; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4John "Jack" Lyle and extend our sincere condolences to his
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Jack Lyle as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
