SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jeffrey N. "Jeff" Long of Naperville, who
4passed away on May 29, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeff Long was born in Lakewood, Ohio on May 5,
61964; he grew up in Naperville and Batavia and graduated from
7Batavia High School; he then attended Eastern Illinois
8University, where he worked at a radio station and for the
9school newspaper; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jeff Long was a sports writer for the Aurora
11Beacon-News for 23 years; he covered local college and
12professional sporting events, including the championship runs
13of the Chicago Bulls; in May 2005, he joined the Fox Valley
14Park District as the public affairs and communications manager;
15he wrote columns for the park district that appeared in local
16newspapers and was instrumental in revitalizing the
17Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jeff Long was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed
19kayaking, biking, fishing, hiking, and canoeing; he enjoyed
20life and once spent ten days cycling to a family reunion in
21Canada; and

1    WHEREAS, Jeff Long was preceded in death by his father,
2Gregory Long; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jeff Long is survived by his wife of 24 years,
4Jenean (Mickey) Long; his children, Autumn Long and Trevor
5Long; his brothers, Brad (Laurie) Long, Steve (Jenny) Long,
6Adam (Katie) Long, and Devin Long; his mother, Cynthia Bratta;
7his stepmother, Linda Long; and his many nieces and nephews;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Jeffrey N. "Jeff" Long and extend our sincere condolences to
12his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Jeff Long as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
