SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wilson Frost of Chicago, who passed away
4on May 5, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wilson Frost was born in Cairo on December 27,
61925; he earned his bachelor's degree from Fisk University in
71950; he then attended Chicago-Kent College of Law and earned
8his Juris Doctor in 1958; he later studied at DePaul
9University's Lawyer's Institute; and
 
10    WHEREAS, After graduating from Fisk, Wilson Frost was hired
11by the Postal Transportation Service as a clerk, where he
12remained until 1952; he then left to work as a statistician at
13Provident Hospital; after earning his law degree, he joined the
14firm of Frost, Sherard, Howse & Coleman, where he continued on
15as a partner until 1973; that year, he left to form Meyer &
16Frost, which later became Frost & Greenblatt; he remained there
17until his retirement in 1998; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Wilson Frost became active in Chicago politics in
191967 when he was elected alderman of the 21st Ward; in 1971, he
20was elected alderman of the 34th Ward, and in 1976, he was
21serving as the president pro tem of the City Council when
22longtime mayor Richard J. Daley passed away; he pointed out

1that under existing law, he was to become the new mayor; the
2other aldermen disagreed, and after the course of several
3meetings, he was kept out of the mayor's seat and instead named
4chairman of the Finance Committee of the City Council;
5following that incident, he continued to serve the city and
6retired as the commissioner of the Cook County Board of Tax
7Appeals in 1998; and
 
8    WHEREAS, During his many years of public service, Wilson
9Frost was honored by many organizations, including the Original
10Forty Club, which awarded him the Man of the Year Award in 1974
11and the Illinois House of Representatives, which upon his
12retirement, issued a resolution praising his work; he also
13actively served several organizations, including the John
14Marshall School of Law, Mercy Hospital Medical Center, and the
15City Club of Chicago, where he was vice president; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Wilson Frost and his wife had four children;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Wilson Frost and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
21friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
