SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles W. "Charlie" Pohlman Jr. of
4Carlinville, who passed away on March 11, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was born in Litchfield to Charles
6and Kathryn (Rebbe) Pohlman on April 7, 1956; he graduated from
7Gillespie High School, where he ran cross country, in 1974; he
8graduated from Illinois State University in 1978; he married
9Cathy Bruene in Gillespie on August 8, 1987; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was a physical education and
11drivers education teacher; his first job was at
12Warrensburg-Latham; he then worked as a teacher and track coach
13at Girard High School; for several years, he was also in charge
14of a successful cross country program at Blackburn College; he
15retired from teaching and coaching in 2016, after 32 years of
16service; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was in charge of the Black Diamond
18Day Race in Gillespie for 38 years; he enjoyed being outside
19and working in his yard, boating on Gillespie Lake with his
20brother and family, and spending time with his wife, children,
21and friends; he was honored to throw the first pitch at the St.
22Louis Cardinals' Charlie Pohlman Day; he was an avid reader; he

1especially enjoyed his annual tradition of going to the
2Illini/Mizzou Braggin' Rights Game; he was a dedicated coach
3and inspired students to be their best and develop lifelong
4positive habits; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was preceded in death by his
6parents and his brother, John Pohlman; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman is survived by his wife, Cathy;
8his sons, Luke and Jake Pohlman, his daughter Carly Pohlman;
9his sisters, Mary (Ron) Norenberg, Marsha Pohlman, and Jo Ellen
10(Matt) Buchanan; his brothers, Jim (Lynne) Pohlman and Reverend
11Stephen Pohlman; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be
12it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Charles W. "Charlie" Pohlman Jr. and extend our sincere
16condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Charlie Pohlman as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
