SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens, of Green
4Valley, Arizona, formerly of Chicago and Arthur, who passed
5away on March 4, 2018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was born in Chicago to George and
7Betty Marsch Johnston on March 31, 1943; she was a child actor
8and appeared in commercials, plays, and television shows; she
9attended Immaculata High School in Chicago and Illinois
10Wesleyan University in Bloomington; she later attended the
11University of Chicago and the University of Illinois, where she
12earned two graduate degrees, one in social work and one in
13special education administration; she married Doug in Chicago
14on January 4, 1964; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens worked in child welfare and then at
16the Coles County Mental Health Center, where she served as the
17Clinical Services Director and then as Acting Director; she
18completed 20 years as a school social worker in Mattoon and
19then continued to teach graduate students at the University of
20Illinois; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens served on the Library Board in
22Arthur and volunteered for the Friends of the Library in Green

1Valley; she was a member of the United Methodist Church of
2Green Valley, the Green Valley Hiking Club, and Newcomers of
3Green Valley; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens enjoyed creating and publishing
5crossword puzzles, dealing in antiques, and designing gardens,
6which were often featured on garden tours; she enjoyed
7traveling, especially to Santa Fe, New Mexico; throughout her
8life, she and her family took many backpacking trips out West;
9she hiked the Grand Canyon five times; she was a voracious
10reader and belonged to many book clubs; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was preceded in death by her
12father, and her brother, Georgie; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens is survived by her mother; her
14husband, Doug; her children, Christie (Bob Poznanovich) Logan,
15Kimberly (Ed) Miles, and Elizabeth (Seth) Padovan; her
16grandchildren, Sam and Jack Logan, Nan and Henry Miles, and
17Quinn Padovan; her sister, Jennie (Paul) Kula; and her three
18nieces and two nephews; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens and extend our sincere
22condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
