SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edgar C. "Ed" Staren, who passed away on
4March 25, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed Staren was born in Chicago to John and Louise
6Staren on June 23, 1932; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Upon the death of his father, Ed Staren became
8President and CEO of the John E. Staren Company, founded by his
9father, in 1945; he eventually opened a subsidiary, The
10Starmill Company, in 1972; both companies were meat
11distributors and bought and sold product worldwide; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ed Staren never took for granted how fortunate he
13was and gave back to his community; he supported over 75
14charitable organizations regularly; those especially dear to
15him were the Special Olympics, where he was an original
16founding board member, the Evans Scholars Foundation, the
17ASPCA, and The Shrine of our Lady of Pompeii in Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ed Staren's family joined the Butterfield County
19Club in 1946 and has had a relationship with the club ever
20since; later in life, Ed joined the Butler National Golf Club,
21where he spent countless days on the course and was honored

1with the Man of the Year award in 2006, an honor voted on by
2fellow members; he will be remembered for his infectious smile
3and laugh, his generous heart, and his unending devotion to his
4family and friends; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ed Staren was preceded in death by his parents;
6his wife, Mary Jo; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald
7and Bessie Devlin; and his sister, Emmy Lou; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ed Staren is survived by his children, Ed, Ted,
9Barbara Ann, and Eric; his siblings, John and Carol; his
10grandchildren, Edgar T. (Amy), Daniel (Leslie), John (Meg),
11Anthony (Mary Beth), Michael, and Helen Staren, William
12(Alison), Madeline, and Austin Feldman, Dakota, and Kassidy
13Staren, and Tori, Ryan (Lauren), and Teddy (Partner Martha
14Pazdro) Bunt; his great-grandchildren, Eddie, Gracie, Danny,
15and Isabella, and two on the way; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Edgar C. "Ed" Staren and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Ed Staren as an expression of our
