SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerard "Jerry" Louis O'Neill of
4Champaign, who passed away on March 21, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill was born in Champaign to John F. and
6Marjorie O'Neill on December 22, 1935; he graduated from
7Champaign High School in 1954; he earned a degree in
8agriculture economics from the University of Illinois in 1958;
9upon graduating from college, he served his country as a first
10lieutenant in the United States Army in Korea and Fort Knox,
11Kentucky from 1958 until 1960; he returned to the University of
12Illinois and earned an executive Master of Business
13Administration in 1977; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill served a leadership role as
15president and chairman of the board of American National Bank
16and later worked for Marine Bank, Bank One, and Chase; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill served many local charitable and
18civic organizations, including the United Way, the Champaign
19Chamber of Commerce, the Champaign Police and Fire Commission,
20Busey First National Bank, the Jaycees, where he received the
21Distinguished Service Award, the Community Foundation, the
22Champaign Country Club, the Disabled Citizens Foundation, the

1Kiwanis Club, St. Thomas More High School's Finance Committee,
2the Green Meadow Girl Scout Council, the Developmental Services
3Center, the City of Champaign Community Development Advisory
4Board, Delta Tau Delta, Provena Covenant Board of Directors,
5the Champaign Girls Club, the Girl Scout Council, and the
6America Business Woman's Association, where he was named Boss
7of the Year; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In his free time, Jerry O'Neill enjoyed golf,
9racquetball, skiing, bocce ball, fishing, traveling, and
10watching his children and grandchildren play sports; his
11leadership qualities and dry sense of humor will be missed, but
12he leaves behind a legacy of community service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill was preceded in death by his
14parents; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jerry O'Neill is survived by his wife, Isabel; his
16children, Diane (Gary) Ballegeer and David (Kathy) O'Neill; his
17grandchildren, Gail (Heath) Lewis, Joe and Paul (Leigh Ann)
18Ballegeer, and Conor, Robby, and Matt O'Neill; his
19great-grandchildren, Isabel and Wellington; and his siblings,
20Gene and Richard (Bonnie) O'Neill; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Gerard "Jerry" Louis O'Neill and extend our sincere condolences
2to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
3it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Jerry O'Neill as an expression of
6our deepest sympathy.
