SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Don Stephen Arnold of Bethalto, who
4passed away on September 26, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Don Arnold was born in Crab Orchard to Erma (Odom)
6Arnold and Clifford Arnold on March 19, 1946; he served in the
7United States Navy during the Vietnam era; he earned a degree
8in business and marketing from Southern Illinois University
9Carbondale; he married Joyce Simpson at the Bethalto Church of
10God on March 14, 1998; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Don Arnold worked as an operator with Shell Oil,
12now Conoco Phillips, for 30 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Don Arnold was a member of the Bethalto Church of
14God for 19 years, where he was also a lay minister; he was
15Minister of Visitation, coordinator of the Young at Heart
16Senior Group, an elder, and deacon; he was also involved with
17the Men's Ministry and taught a Sunday School class; he
18ministered at Sky Line Apartments and Hillcrest Apartments in
19Alton; he had a special interest in Project Aliyah, which helps
20Jewish people return to their homeland; over 15 years, he
21sponsored the return of 204 Jews to Israel; and

1    WHEREAS, Don Arnold was preceded in death by his parents;
2his brother, Darryl Arnold; and his sister, Linda Heltsley; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Don Arnold is survived by his wife, Joyce; his
4son, Clayton Arnold; his daughters, Olivia McCray and Sharma
5Halbert; his grandchildren, Larry McCray, Eleonore Grace
6Arnold, Zach Finegan, Kayleigh Finegan, and Brenna Halbert; his
7two stepchildren, his four step-grandchildren; and his
8sister-in-law, Bonnie Arnold; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Don Stephen Arnold and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Don Arnold as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
