SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Lois Marion Mathews of Wonder Lake, who
4passed away on December 4, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews was born in Chicago to George and
6Elise Hartmann on November 6, 1931; she attended Alvernia High
7School in Chicago and Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin;
8she married Thomas P. Mathews IV on February 2, 1952; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews was her husband's partner in the
10insurance, land development, home building, real estate, and
11utilities businesses; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews taught some of her grandchildren to
13play the piano; she also taught swimming; she created
14Fibromyalgia and Arthritis support groups and assisted in
15developing programs at Christ the King parish; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews had a love for water and lived on the
17lake for most of her life; she enjoyed boating, sailing, and
18most of all, swimming; her favorite pastimes were playing the
19organ, reading, and journaling; she also had a passion for
20travel and took several cruises, including one that took her
21around the world in a little over three months; and

1    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews was a loving and supportive wife, a
2nurturing mother, a treasured grandmother, and a valued friend;
3she appreciated life to the fullest and brought out the best in
4others; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews was preceded in death by her parents;
6her brother, James; and her sister-in-law, Jean Hartmann; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lois Mathews is survived by her husband, Thomas;
8her children, Mary, Ruth (Marilyn), Thomas V. (Jodi), Terrance
9(Helene), Ann (Jeff), Stephen (Patricia) Norman (Kate), and
10Beth Mathews; her grandchildren, Thomas VI (Kasey), Tony
11(Ashley), Tyler (Suereea), Morgan (Mike), Justine, Kelly,
12Jackie, Mercedes, Austin, and Mason Mathews, Katie (Byron)
13Steine, and Kassy and Jessica Blaschak; her eight
14great-grandchildren; her brothers, Thomas (Mary) and George
15Hartmann; her sister-in-law, Pearl Mathews; and her many nieces
16and nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Lois Marion Mathews and extend our sincere condolences to her
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
21further
