SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Zarouhe "Zari" Maurstad of Waukegan, who
4passed away on December 17, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was born in Waukegan to Andon and
6Nevrig Margoian on May 23, 1923 and was a life-long resident;
7after graduating from high school, she worked at the Great
8Lakes Naval Base post office until the end of World War II; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was employed at Heins Department
10Store throughout the late 1940s and 1950s; as her children
11grew, she continued to work outside the home, retiring in 1982
12from Grand Gardens; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was an active member of the St.
14George Armenian Church, first as a choir member, and later, as
15a member of the Ladies' Guild; she enjoyed traveling, a good
16cup of coffee, a glass of wine each evening, the Chicago Cubs,
17crossword puzzles, collecting cookbooks, and cooking and
18baking, in particular the Armenian dishes she learned to make
19with her mother; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad was preceded in death by her
21parents; her husband of 58 years, Gordon; and her sister, Helen

2    WHEREAS, Zari Maurstad is survived by her children, Karen
3Kunesh (Edward) and Eric Maurstad; her grandchildren, Evan,
4Kara, and Zari Kunesh; her sisters-in-law, Donna Mundy and
5Harriet Scharmer; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be
6it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Zarouhe "Zari" Maurstad, and extend our sincere condolences to
10her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Zari Maurstad as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
