SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Stephen D. Smouse of Antioch, who passed
4away on November 5, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stephen Smouse was born in Ottawa to Kenneth and
6Elizabeth "Betty" (Dowd) Smouse on May 22, 1952; he moved to
7Antioch with his family in 1956 and attended Antioch Grade
8School and Antioch Community High School, graduating in 1970;
9he attended Millikin University in Decatur and Carthage
10College, Kenosha, Wisconsin; he graduated from the Worsham
11College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1978; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Stephen Smouse worked for Roadway Express, and
13after graduating, began working for the Strang Funeral Home,
14eventually becoming manager; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Stephen Smouse served as an Antioch Township
16Trustee beginning in 1997; he served as Antioch Township
17Supervisor and was instrumental in building the Antioch-Lake
18Villa Township Center and the Tim Osmond Sports Park; he
19started the tri-township bus with Lake Villa and Grant
20Townships; he held several FEMA certifications; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Stephen Smouse was a member of the Illinois

1Township Officials Association, the Illinois Township
2Supervisors Association, and president of the Antioch Hillside
3Cemetery Association; he was a member of the Antioch Historical
4Society, the Antioch Plan Commission, the Antioch Arbor Day
5Committee, the Antioch Jaycees, Friends of the Antioch Library,
6and many other professional organizations; he was a 25-year
7member of the Antioch Rotary Club and a 22-year member and
8paramedic for the Antioch Rescue Squad; he earned his pilots
9license in 1982; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Stephen Smouse is survived by his wife, Gerianne
11(Spellman); his daughter, Casey (Richard) Hafferkamp; his
12siblings, Jerry (Jody) Smouse, Rick Smouse, Jeff (Shari)
13Smouse, and Betsy Smouse; his grandchildren, Ashley, Wyatt,
14Lily, Luke, and Bennett; and many nieces and nephews;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Stephen D. Smouse, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Stephen Smouse as an expression of
23our deepest sympathy.
