SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gordon George Frey of Geneva, who passed
4away on July 22, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey was born in Oak Park to Julius and
6Frieda (Elfring) Frey on October 5, 1923 and spent his early
7life in Bensenville; he studied civil engineering at North
8Central College in Naperville; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey served with the United States Army
10Corp of Engineers during World War II, locating land mines in
11France; he was captured and sent to Oflag 64 in Szubin, Poland;
12as the Russians advanced, he and the other prisoners were
13forced to march hundreds of miles in freezing temperatures to
14other camps in Poland and Germany; he was finally liberated in
15April of 1945 at Moosberg; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey married June on May 29, 1947 and ran
17his land surveying company from the home that he and June built
18themselves on land adjacent to June's family farm in Lisle; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey helped establish the Lisle school
20districts and was a member of the elementary and high school
21boards in the 1950s; and

1    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey and June retired to Geneva in 1984
2spending the next 30 years doing home improvements,
3landscaping, gardening, and enjoying the company of many
4wonderful neighbors who became family; his greatest joy was
5seeing his family and friends succeed; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey was preceded in death by his daughter,
7Barbara Brodski; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gordon Frey is survived by his wife, June; his
9children, Bruce (Becky) Frey, Barry (Colleen) Frey, and Beth
10(Paul) Von Driska; his grandchildren, Audra (Byron) Hudson,
11Benjamin Frey, Michael Von Driska, Ken Biewer, and Kevin
12Biewer; his great-grandchild, Cyrus Hudson; and his beloved
13cat, "Cat 2", who he and June saved from the streets;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Gordon George Frey, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Gordon Frey as an expression of our
