SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold H. Goebel of Bethalto, who passed
4away on July 15, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harold Goebel was born in Prairietown to Edward
6and Anna (Renken) Goebel on March 18, 1915; he married Elveta
7Frillman at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Prairietown on
8February 15, 1941; he served in the United States Marine Corp
9during World War II with the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd
10Battalion; from 1943 to 1946, he was in the South Pacific,
11Saipan, Okinawa and was part of the first group entering
12Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Harold Goebel worked at Olin Brass in East Alton
14for 37 years, retiring in 1978; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Harold Goebel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church
16in Bethalto; he was a trustee for the church and a member of
17the Men's Club, where he worked on the sausage supper for many
18years; he was a member of Bethalto American Legion Post 214 and
19helped with many military funerals; he was a lifelong member of
20Alton VFW Post 1308 and Bethalto Senior Citizens, where he
21enjoyed playing pinochle with many friends; he also delivered
22Meals on Wheels for several years; and

1    WHEREAS, Harold Goebel was preceded in death by his wife of
261 years, Elveta; his parents; his brother. Wilfred Goebel; his
3sister-in-law, Elvira Goebel; his brother-in-law, Wilfred
4Stieglitz; his brother-in-law, Lloyd Frillman; and his
5sister-in-law, Anita Frillman; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Harold Goebel is survived by his daughter, Ruth
7Ann Keefe; his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Catherine
8Goebel; his grandchildren, Dr. Brian (Janis) Keefe, Angela
9(Michael) Goebel-Bain, Matthew Goebel, and Jennifer (William)
10Mudge; his great-grandchildren, Caroline Keefe, Rowan and Elsa
11Goebel-Bain, Clara and Maria Goebel, and Peyton and Ross
12Vucich; his sister, Florence Stieglitz; his brother-in-law and
13sister-in-law, Edward and LaVerne Frillman; his sister-in-law,
14Jean Frillman; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Harold H. Goebel, and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Harold Goebel as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
