SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Gerald "Jerry" Pavlak of
4Carpentersville, who passed away on May 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Pavlak was born to John and Vera Pavlak on
6January 20, 1944 and was raised in Carpentersville by his
7mother and stepfather, Charles Bostwick; he graduated from high
8school and then served in the United States Marine Corps, Ninth
9Marines, Third Marine Division as a rifleman during the Vietnam
10War and achieved the rank of lance corporal; he received the
11Purple Heart for wounds received in action; his other awards
12included, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the M-14 Rifle
13Marksman Badge, the .45 Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, and the Good
14Conduct Medal; he graduated with his Associate of Applied
15Science in Mental Health from Elgin Community College in 1976
16and his bachelor's degree in psychology from Chicago State
17University in 1977; he went on to earn his master's degree in
18education from Northern Illinois University in 1980; and
 
19    WHEREAS, John Pavlak spent his career caring for the youth
20and the disabled at the Kane County Youth Home, the Larkin Home
21for Children, and the Little City Foundation; he was dedicated
22to achieving fairness and justice for those who could not stand
23up for themselves; he later worked as a business agent for

1Teamsters Union, Local 330 in Elgin and as a substitute teacher
2for Summit School in Dundee; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Pavlak had a generous and caring heart and
4loved spending time with his grandchildren; he enjoyed
5listening to his eclectic music collection, watching movies,
6and fishing; and
 
7    WHEREAS, John Pavlak was a member of VFW Carpentersville
8Post 5195; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Pavlak was preceded in death by his
10stepbrother, Jack Bostwick; and
 
11    WHEREAS, John Pavlak is survived by his daughter, Kimberly
12Russ, and his grandchildren, Arika Rose Zemola and Nathaniel
13Zemola; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16John Gerald "Jerry" Pavlak, and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of John Pavlak as an expression of our
