SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Officer James I. Brockmeyer was born in Chester to
3Donald and Dixie (Bowen) Brockmeyer on April 30, 1994; he
4graduated from Chester High School in 2012, where he played
5football, basketball, and baseball; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer worked for the City of Chester
7Gas Department and part-time for Derek's Lawn Service in
8Chester before joining the Chester Police Department; he was
9also a volunteer fireman for the Chester Fire Department; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer dedicated himself to public
11service, demonstrated by his service as a firefighter and by
12his commitment to the profession of law enforcement; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer was a member of St. John
14Lutheran Church in Chester and the Randolph County Rod and Gun
15Club; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer passed away on October 28, 2016
17in the line of duty; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer served as a cherished member of
19the Chester Police and Fire Departments; he will be missed by
20his fellow firefighters and brothers and sisters in blue; and

1    WHEREAS, Officer Brockmeyer is survived by his parents; his
2sister, Megan Brockmeyer; his fiance, Lauren Hoops; his
3maternal grandmother, Joleen Bowen; and many aunts, uncles,
4cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
7CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 3 as it
8travels from State Street in Chester to Water Street as the
9"Officer James I. Brockmeyer Memorial Highway"; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
12is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
13State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
14giving notice of the name "Officer James I. Brockmeyer Memorial
15Highway"; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Officer Brockmeyer, Chester Mayor
18Tom Page, and the Secretary of the Department of
19Transportation.
