HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Timothy L. Dotson on the
4occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police Department;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson was born in Chicago to Leroy and
7Ida Grace Dotson on June 5, 1966; he attended Frank L.
8Gillespie Elementary School and Chicago Vocational Jr. High
9School, where he majored in commercial arts; he then enlisted
10in the United States Marine Corps; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson married his high school
12sweetheart, Thaddy Jenise Dotson, and they had three children,
13Timothy Jr., Tiffany, and Troy; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served his country on active duty
15in the Marine Corps for approximately seven years; he served in
16various capacities including as a field artillery cannon crew
17chief, a military policeman, and a cadre trainer; his military
18service took him to numerous places, including California,
19Okinawa, and Seoul; it was his stint as a military policeman
20that cultivated his desire to work within the law enforcement
21profession; and

1    WHEREAS, While still on active duty with the Marines,
2Timothy Dotson attended the Ventura County Police & Sheriff's
3Academy; he graduated as the outstanding cadet of his class and
4was hired as a reserve police officer for the beach front city
5of Port Hueneme, California; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Upon conclusion of his active duty military
7obligation, Timothy Dotson returned home to the Chicago area
8and worked as a firearms instructor for PBS, a private security
9school; he was hired a short time later by the Chicago Transit
10Authority as a bus operator, where he worked until the City of
11Gary (Indiana) hired him as a police officer; he attended the
12Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana, where
13he was named president of the class by his peers and Squad
14Leader of Class 94-117 by the academy staff; and
 
15    WHEREAS, As a Gary Police Officer, Timothy Dotson was
16entrusted to work within the Public Morals Bureau after only a
17few short months on the job; he later worked on the Lake County
18Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force or "Safe Streets", headed by
19the Federal Bureau of Investigation; he was recognized by the
20Optimist Club of Hammond Indiana for his dedication to duty; he
21was also recognized by the Merrillville office of the FBI for
22his role in Safe Street's achieving 500 arrests; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served the City of Gary Indiana for

1three years before moving back to Chicago and accepting a
2position with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District
3Police, where he served for two years before realizing his
4dream of serving with the Chicago Police Department; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson served the citizens of Chicago with
6distinction; during his 20-year career, he worked in the Grand
7Crossing Police District as a patrolman, field training
8officer, tactical officer, and gang enforcement officer; his
9other assignments included special operations and the training
10academy; after 17 years of hard work and dedication, he was
11promoted to the rank of detective; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson's first assignment was as a Special
13Victim's Unit Detective; he later worked within the Violent
14Crimes Unit as a Homicide and General Investigation Detective;
15he completed both a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement
16Management and a Master of Science in Public Safety
17Administration; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson received numerous awards and
19commendations, including two CPD Life Saving Awards, three
20departmental commendations, and over 70 departmental honorable
21mentions; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Timothy Dotson has also been ordained as a gospel

1minister and has attained a master's degree in ministry from
2the McCormick Theological Seminary; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5congratulate Timothy L. Dotson on his retirement from the
6Chicago Police Department, and we wish him the best in all his
7future endeavors; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Timothy Dotson as an expression of our esteem and
10respect.
