HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Karen Hunter Anderson
4on the occasion of her retirement as the Illinois Community
5College Board (ICCB) Executive Director on November 30, 2018;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson joined the ICCB in 1999 and became
8the first ICCB staff person to be selected for the permanent
9position of Executive Director in 2013; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has provided leadership and has
11served as an administrator for nearly all of the board's
12functions in the divisions related to workforce, adult
13education, career and technical education, academic affairs,
14student services, minority affairs, education technology, and
15institutional research; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson serves as a commissioner to the
17Midwest Higher Education Compact and as a member of the
18Governor's Cabinet for Children and Youth; she is a founding
19member of the Illinois Longitudinal Data System Governance
20Committee and has recently served as the chair of the National
21Council of State Directors of Community Colleges; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Anderson has received numerous leadership
2awards, including the Illinois Council of Community College
3Administrators 2010 Outstanding Service Award, the Illinois
4Community College Trustees Association 2016 Meritorious
5Service Award, and the Chinese Mutual Aid Association 2017
6Visionary of the Year Award; under her leadership, the ICCB
7received the College Changes Everything 2017 Champion Award;
8she has also represented the State's community college system
9through her participation in three White House Summits,
10including the White House College Opportunity Day of Action in
112016; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Prior to coming to the Illinois Community College
13Board, Dr. Anderson was the principal and president of Ursuline
14Academy in Springfield, provost, registrar, and acting
15president of Springfield College in Illinois, assistant
16professor of English at Millikin University, a trustee of St.
17John's College of Nursing, and a professor and coordinator of
18the Bilingual Business Studies Program at Midway College in
19Kentucky; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
21HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22congratulate Dr. Karen Hunter Anderson on her retirement as the
23Illinois Community College Board Executive Director, and we
24wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it
