HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James
4Harvey "Jim" Slater of Elgin, who passed away on May 8, 2018;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Slater was born in Chicago to Harvey and Mary
7(Berger) Slater on July 30, 1941; he attended Parks College of
8St. Louis University and studied aircraft maintenance; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Slater served in the United States Army during
10the Vietnam War; he was stationed in the Philippines and then
11in Saigon, Vietnam; he worked with the Army Security Agency and
12had top secret cryptographic security clearance; after
13Vietnam, he was stationed in Texas and then finished his
14service at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts, where he was a member of
15the Ft. Devens Army Flying Club; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jim Slater was a manager at Hinsdale Camera Center
17for 16 years and worked with National Metal Fabricators in Elk
18Grove Village for 25 years; he retired in 2008; he also worked
19at GAT Guns in East Dundee for 19 years, retiring only one
20month before his death; he was a dedicated employee; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jim Slater was an avid photographer and a member

1of the Elgin Area Camera Club, where he also served as
2president for six years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jim Slater was preceded in death by his parents;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Slater is survived by his sons, Thomas (Traci)
6Slater and James C. (Amber) Slater; his daughter, Nina (Andy)
7Cenkush; his sister, Barbara (Ron) Fessler; his grandchildren,
8Matthew, Kayla, and James T. Slater, Tristan and Ryenne Balmer,
9and Edward Cenkush; his nephew; his four nieces; and his many
10great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13mourn the passing of James Harvey "Jim" Slater and extend our
14sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
15and loved him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Jim Slater as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
