HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is proposing
3to extend the Red Line from the existing terminal at 95th/Dan
4Ryan to 130th Street; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The proposed 5.3-mile extension would include
6four new stations near 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan
7Avenue, and 130th Street; each new station would include bus
8and parking facilities; and
 
9    WHEREAS, This project is one part of the Red Ahead Program
10to extend and enhance the entire Red Line; the project is
11subject to the availability of funding; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Extending the Red Line would provide numerous
13benefits; it would reduce commute times for residents both
14within and south of the project area; it would improve mobility
15and accessibility for transit-dependent residents in the
16project area; it would improve rapid transit rail service to
17isolated areas and linkages between affordable housing, jobs,
18services, and educational opportunities; it would offer
19opportunities for potential connections and linkages to other
20public transportation modes including regional commuter rail
21in the project area; it would spur economic development in the
22project area; and it would offer a modern, efficient rail car

1storage yard and shop facility to provide storage and
2cost-effective preventive maintenance for rail cars associated
3with the Red Line Extension (RLE) Project, rail cars currently
4stored in the existing 98th Street Yard and Shop, and rail cars
5supporting additional Red Line expansion of service;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9urge the United States Department of Transportation to make
10funding for the Chicago Red line extension a priority; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13delivered to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary
14Elaine L. Chao, President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
15Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck
16Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of
17Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members
18of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
