HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the
4founding of the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District
7was organized and incorporated on October 13, 1967 as a local
8mass transit district to serve the transportation needs of
9local communities; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Initially, there were 11 participating
11municipalities: Homewood, Harvey, Olympia Fields, Flossmoor,
12Dixmoor, Park Forest, Matteson, East Hazel Crest, Richton Park,
13Riverdale, and Hazel Crest; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1971, the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit
15District puts its first Highliner cars into service; the last
16run of the original Highliners took place on February 12, 2016;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Over the years, the Chicago South Suburban Mass
19Transit District has grown to accommodate the ever-increasing
20transportation needs of the area by expanding its rail lines
21and operating commuter parking lots; and

1    WHEREAS, Currently, the Chicago South Suburban Mass
2Transit District is comprised of 14 participating
3municipalities with the addition of Blue Island, Calumet Park,
4and University Park; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7recognize the 50th anniversary of the Chicago South Suburban
8Mass Transit District, and we wish them many more years of
9success; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Chicago South Suburban Mass Transit District
12as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
