HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Violence and threats against the Jewish people and
3against individual Jews, based upon their identified status as
4Jews, led to one of the darkest patterns in human history; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In recent days, the number and scale of threats
6and violent actions against Jewish people, offices, entities,
7places of worship, and places of burial, have multiplied within
8the United States; and
 
9    WHEREAS, These threats and actions have taken various
10forms, including the spray-painting of hostile graffiti upon
11synagogues, anonymous telephoned bomb threats against Jewish
12child care centers and community centers, and activities of
13vandals at Jewish cemeteries; and
 
14    WHEREAS, On Monday, February 27, 2017, the Jewish Community
15Center Association of North America reported that 31 separate
16bomb threats were called into 23 community centers and eight
17Jewish day schools throughout the United States; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In recent news stories, several key synagogues in
19the Chicago area, including synagogues on Chicago's North Shore
20such as Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah in Wilmette and
21North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, have been compelled

1to take steps to increase security in and around their places
2of worship; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5stand with the Jewish residents of Illinois in fervent and
6uncompromising opposition to any form of threats or violence
7against Jewish children, families, people, buildings,
8institutions, places of identity, and places of religious
9observance; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we commend the local law enforcement
11agencies with responsibility over those locations that are
12under actual or potential threat for the increased vigilance
13and security that they are being called upon to provide; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we call upon the federal government of the
16United States, and the State of Illinois, to increase the
17active enforcement of law enforcement and security policies
18intended to reduce and eliminate these types of threats; and be
19it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to
21the Governor of Illinois, the Director of the Illinois State
22Police, and the Director of the Federal Bureau of
